Monroe Avenue Alexandria, VA.

Job Description

The Wellness Director reports to the Associate Executive Director. This position will assist in the management and administration of the wellness department.


Essential Functions

The candidate will be highly motivated and possess a strong understanding of wellness/fitness trends, will have strong customer service skills, and interpersonal skills to motivate, communicate and encourage staff; while connecting members to a lifetime of healthy lifestyle changes through aerobic, wellness and specialty programs. Create member-focused culture and model relationship-building skills in all interactions; Foster a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction; Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members through health and wellness programs and initiatives; This position is responsible for recruiting, supervising, training and evaluating staff; in conjunction with creating and delivering a quality member experience through solid operation of an effective fitness and wellness department.

Job Requirements
The candidate will have (5) five years’ experience in the fitness industry with at least (2) two years in a supervisory capacity, a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field, and personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e. ACE, ACSM, NASM). Should be knowledgeable on all strength equipment and the safe use of that equipment. May be required to lead aerobics classes; conduct personal training sessions requiring lifting of free weights up to 50 lbs. May require evening and week-end work. Must be able to get to all the branches in the Association.
