Job Description

 Recreation Leader I:
 DUTIES:
  • Under close supervision, leads and oversees recreation activities at a playground or other recreation facility and encourages participants' interest in arts, games, sports, dance, crafts, table games and special events.
  • Exercises responsibility for the issuance, care, and use of recreation supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains control at the location to which assigned.
  • Under close supervision, prepares the recreational facility for sports games including lining fields, keeping scores, maintaining statistics, and officiating on occasion.
  • Assists in the operation of leagues, tournaments, meets, and the daily programmed activities at the recreation facility.
  • Collects money for concessions.
  • Keeps the facility in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Set-up and breakdown of rooms scheduled for meetings and/or recreational activities and events in a timely manner.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Recreation Leader II:
DUTIES:
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises recreation activities at park, playground, after school program, teen or senior center, the Plunge or other recreation facilities.
  • Interprets recreation programs and policies to the public and enforces departmental policies.
  • Prepares the recreational facility for activities.
  • Investigates complaints, suggestions, and requests concerning recreation programs and makes recommendations to the Recreation Specialist.
  • Inspects the maintenance of facilities and equipment used in recreation programs to ensure their adequacy and safety. Assists with City wide special events. May assist with the maintenance of recreational facilities, as needed. Performs other related duties.
Lifeguard/Swim Instructor:
GENERAL DUTIES:
  • Under close supervision organizes and conducts a well-balanced aquatic program at the Culver City Municipal Pool.
  • Supervises pool deck, enforces regulations, prevents accidents and effects rescues.
  • Teaches swimming, lifesaving and water safety classes.
  • Assists with pool maintenance and operation and the testing of chemicals.
  • Maintains pool records, attends staff meetings and service training programs, and performs other related duties.
  • This position is frequently exposed to intense sunlight and full sunlight.
Pool Manager:
DUTIES:
  • Organizes and conducts a well-balanced aquatic program at the Culver City Municipal Pool.
  • Perform lifeguard duties during public recreation swimming hours.
  • Supervises pool deck, enforces regulations, prevents accidents and effects rescues.
  • Assists with pool maintenance and operation and the testing of chemicals.
  • Maintains pool records.
  • Attends staff meetings and service training programs.
  • This position is frequently exposed to intense sunlight and full sunlight.
 
 
Job Requirements
Recreation Leader I: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the knowledge, skill and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be: candidates must be at least fifteen years of age and possess valid work permit, as applicable.
Recreation Leader II: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or equivalent and either 1) Completion of 30 college semester units OR 2) One (1) year experience in providing recreation, community, cultural, or social program activities.
Lifegaurd/Swim Instructor: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: possess experience in supervising the use and safety of swimming pools and must be at least 17 years of age.The following current certificates must be submitted at time of application for full consideration: 1) CPR 2) First-Aid 3) Red-Cross Water Safety Instructor and 4) Lifeguard Training.
Pool Manager: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: possess one (1) year work experience as a lifeguard or swimming instructor and must be at least 21 years of age. The following current certificates must be submitted at time of application for full consideration: 1) Red-Cross Water Safety Instructor, 2) CPR, and 3) First-Aid.
