Job Description

Entry level recreational work in designated recreation program(s) and instructing in a variety of recreational activities. May work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

The following duties are illustrative for this position.  The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned. 
  • Monitors and sets up equipment for assigned recreational programs such as: special events, pickleball, youth and adult athletic leagues and activities, Dances and game room.
  • Maintains equipment throughout the Recreation/Fitness division of the Civic Center and or the Community Center fitness area.
  • Provides customer service to guests, sells program tickets, memberships to facility, and enters registration for recreation/fitness programs.
  • Performs general housekeeping of floors and carpets and performs litter control functions throughout the facility.
  • Disseminates information to public via email, telephone or in-person.
  • Utilizes our REC TRAC software, maintains monthly reports regarding memberships and class/program attendance.
  • Provides guidance to members on use of fitness equipment and basic principles of physical fitness and conditioning 
  • May instruct assigned recreational/fitness programs such as: cycling, general health/fitness classes, yoga, pilates, special events, athletic leagues and activities, center programs, dances, hayrides, etc.
  • Assists in front desk/floor coverage to the fitness center and/or recreation desk of the Port St. Lucie Civic Center or the Community Center.
  • Assist in fitness and/or recreation division when hosting special events at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, Community Center (and other locations).
  • May be eligible to participate in the City's personal training program. The personal training program is designed to assist patrons at the facility in their exercise program. 
  • Remain current with industry standards and practices

Education and/or Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) years' experience in working in the fitness industry. Some recreation experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record may be required.CPR/AED training is required within 270 days of hire. Personal Training Certification – within 90 days of hire.
