Job Description

The Fitness Assessor is responsible for the effective onboarding of new members and delivery of member retention programs and services to maximize results, program revenue, program participation, club profitability, and new member recruiting. This person will carry out Active Wellness' commitment to service its members in the best fitness environment possible with the friendliest staff, most educated trainers, cleanest facility, most ethical business practices and state of the art equipment. The Fitness Assessor will deliver relevant, quality fitness and wellness programs that support long-lasting, meaningful change in people's lives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  • Meet with all new members within the first 2 weeks of joining the club in a one-on-one private capacity to determine individual wellness track
  • Deliver all orientations within the appropriate four wellness tracks incorporating assessment software
  • Determine members health risks and real age through use of assessment software
  • Educate members on the proper way to create a program design specified to reach individual goals
  • Guide each new member through club specific programs and departments to ensure a relevant connection between a fitness professional and member
  • Educate each new member on the programs of the club
  • Obtain commission by selling each member appropriate program packages (personal training, weight loss and wellness programs, Pilates, kinesis, gravity, swim, boot camp etc.)
  • Create a comfortable and proper hand-off of each member to an appropriate fitness professional
  • Track each member for a year from the join date, performing a continuous connection with each wellness member through e-mail, phone and face-to face interaction to ensure member retention.
  • Fitness Assessor will not deliver Personal training sessions, rather facilitate member hand-off to personal training staff through coaching and preparation
  • Perform weekly retention phone calls
  • Work together as a TEAM with all departments
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Other Functions:
  • Uphold Active Wellness written policies and procedures
  • Attend Active Wellness management meetings, trainings and retreats
  • Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance
  • Maintain Active Wellness and OSHA safety standards
  • Handle injury and illness and security incident reporting
  • Make sure that the club is well stocked and clean
  • Meet Active Wellness' standards for professionalism in conduct and appearance at all times

Position Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • 4-years college degree in exercise science related field preferred
  • Nationally recognized certification in personal training required
  • Previous health club personal training experience is a plus
  • Sales experience a plus
  • Communication skills, customer service oriented
  • Operational knowledge of resistance training equipment and proper form
  • Knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics
  • Knowledge of injury prevention and basic rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of basic movement and posture assessments and body composition assessments
  • Ability to calculate target heart rate
  • Basic knowledge in nutrition
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification Required within 30 days of hire
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • Proof of citizenship or legal status

Physical and Working Conditions
  • Ability to take responsibility for the health and safety of others
  • Ability to stand for several hours; ability to lift 25 lbs
