Job Description

Are you a massage therapist looking to focus on holistic wellbeing? The YMCA of the North has an innovative holistic wellbeing center called the George Wellbeing Center in Downtown Minneapolis. The George Wellbeing Center offers services such as Massage, Acupuncture, Health Coaches, Meditation and Nutritionists.

As a Massage Therapist you will build your business up to fill your schedule. You would do this by networking to build your client base. The massage sessions range in lengths from 30 to 90 minutes. The YMCA believes in providing so much more than a massage but customer excellence in a whole person focus. Equipment is provided along with a comfortable environment for stress relief to our members. This is a part-time massage therapy role about 20 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Meet city of Minneapolis licensing requirements for massage therapy
  • Massage Therapy Certificate from an accredited school with a minimum of 750 hours of training
  • CPR certification
  • Current Board Certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), or in the process of NCBTMB certification. Certification should be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Obtain and maintain required certification and proper licensing related to massage therapy
  • Training or experience in relaxation, deep tissue, and sports massage is a plus!

1. Job Summary:

The Massage Therapist administers massage therapy and provides quality customer service to clients. This position also creates an enjoyable atmosphere that promotes member wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

2. Essential Functions:

  • Provide therapeutic human touch to clients, session lengths range from 30 to 90 minutes.
  • Create a comfortable and professional environment.
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition and perform housekeeping duties to keep massage area clean.
  • Obtain and maintain required certification and proper licensing related to massage therapy.
  • Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to all clients.
  • Respond to and communicate all member concerns and feedback in a timely manner to your supervisor.
  • Follow and enforce appointment schedule and cancellation policy.
  • Assist welcoming and checking in clients when needed.

3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Manager of Integrative Health and Wellbeing who reports to the VP of Integrative Health and Wellbeing. The incumbent interacts with members and responds to their needs and provides feedback in a professional manner. The incumbent is expected to treat members and staff with respect and responsibility.

4. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Meet city's licensing requirements for massage therapy, if applicable
  • Massage Therapy Certificate from an accredited school with a minimum of 750 hours of training
  • Current Board Certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), or in the process of NCBTMB certification. Certification should be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Training or experience in relaxation, deep tissue, and sports massage

5. Physical Demands:

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.

This job description represents the major functions of the position but it is not intended to be all-inclusive. The incumbent is also responsible for taking direction from the Branch Director or Executive Director or their representatives in completing projects or performing duties deemed necessary for the branch or associations success.

This is a part-time position located downtown, Minneapolis in the Gaviidae building. Hours are flexible within operating hours of Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
