About Our Job

Employment Requirement: City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.

Denver Parks & Recreation Fitness serves all fitness levels through a variety of services led by more than 100 fitness professionals! We offer 200+ group fitness classes offered citywide, as well as specialized programs such as boot camp missions and personal training services.

The City & County of Denver’s Fitness team is looking to hire a Fitness Program Coordinator to develop, coordinate, and implement fitness programs for the community.

The Fitness Program Coordinator:

  • Works with specified Fitness disciplines and on-call Fitness staff to organize and manage city-wide programming within their assigned disciplines
  • Provides instruction to participants in organized fitness programs, classes and activities
  • Identifies community and customer needs and interests, assesses program responsiveness to these interests and initiates new programming elements and enterprises, including partnerships with other community-based organizations
  • Recruits and guides the work of instructors and volunteers to achieve quality programming delivery
  • Performs program pre-planning duties for assigned programs, classes and activities to include written projections of costs and fees. Analyzes and makes reports of post-program budgetary outcomes
  • Administers and reviews program participant evaluation instruments for assigned programs; analyzes and uses findings to increase program and instructional effectiveness
  • Publicizes fitness programs and other offerings by creating, producing and distributing printed materials, contacting media and/or developing and maintaining Web content
  • Engages in outreach activities to secure community acceptance and increased participation in recreation facility use and programming
  • Records data in budgetary and accounting records, collects revenues and makes cash deposits
  • Organizes and/or directly participates in maintaining a facility and/or providing program administrative support
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience instructing fitness classes in both group and one-on-one settings
  • Multiple certifications within an extensive range of Fitness disciplines
  • Experience managing programming at multiple sites/locations at one time
  • A solid understanding and knowledge of a wide range of fitness areas
  • Strong organizational skills, team oriented, ability to be flexible amidst changing priorities, and able to work a variety of shifts to include evenings and weekends
  • Prior supervisory experience in recreation preferred

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education, or a closely related field
  • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires certification in CPR/First Aid within 6 months of hire. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
  • Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
