Job Description

Family owned and operated athletic business in Massachusetts is looking for a dependable, long-term employee to handle all tennis administration responsibilities. This position would include a variety of tennis business and operations responsibilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Fitness Director, or the “FD”, plays a significant role in the club’s and the company’s overall success by:

  • Achieving or exceeding revenue projections the Fitness Department
  • Creating and implementing dynamic and exciting programs that will consistently engage members and help them meet their long- and short-term health and fitness goals;
  • Provide members and guests with legendary service and enhance their sense of belonging and community within the club.

In addition to the primary roles and responsibilities described within, the Fitness Director embraces and follows the guidelines outlined in our Service Standards and plays a vital role in the success of the department, club and company. The “FD” always represents the company while they are in the club and must maintain a professional manner in dealing with fellow staff, members and guests. This individual consistently displays a helpful and positive attitude and assists other departments when necessary. The “FD” is the organization’s “Pied Piper” serving as an example to staff and members.

Job Requirements
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· FD will work a minimum of 44 hours a week of which 32 are designated for administration.

· FD will develop and implement systems ensuring the following:

o Efficient staffing models within the framework of the budget

o Cleaning systems for all equipment, storage of equipment, and Fitness office area

o Ensure SOP for Fitness is always current with regards to operational tasks within the fitness department

· FD will perform at least four (4) public speaking appearances per year

· FD will visit a minimum of 10 local health clubs and fitness facilities annually as well as stay current on all fitness, aquatics, and personal training trends, equipment, and programs

· FD will oversee all aspects of managing systems pertaining to the Fitness Department. This includes but is not limited to:

o -Hiring and termination of Fitness coaches,

o -Evaluation process (30, 60, 90, anniversary date)

o -Keeping up to date individual personnel files

o -New staff orientation and training

o -Continuous training of current staff

o Weekly/monthly/annual Goal setting

o Handling and submitting accurate Weekly payroll

o -Annual wage review

o -Reviewing and coaching thru productivity sheet review

o -Individual member service issues that arise- first responder for club emergencies

o -Maintain appropriate certification and training for all PT staff (CPR, Emergency procedures and PT Cert.)

o -Uniform compliance

· Ensure Monthly KPI’s (KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS) are met for Fitness

o Review monthly goals with key staff members

o Set game plan to attain goals

o Address any concerns pertaining to performance

o Communicate club-wide important information to each Director

· FD will serve as a conduit to bridge other aspects of the facility with the Fitness Department

o Create and implement dynamic Group Training offerings

o Gender specific programming

o Special population programming- such as obesity, diabetes, cardiac disease and cardiac disease programs

· FD will call all new members within a week of joining the facility, assign a trainer to assess their fitness goals and direct into appropriate classes and programs

· FD will ensure each trainer maintains Personal Training /testimonial books

· FD will ensure each PT client has signed off on waivers and contracts pertaining to training

· FD will ensure all trainers keep up to date records of clients

· FD and ensure floor staffing hour distribution is fair with regards to high and low traffic times

· FD will manage department tasks including but not limited to:

o -21 day call system

o -Confirmation calls

o -Post cards

o -Member survey forms and trainer appointment evaluations

o -Daily cleaning regimen

· FD will attend weekly meetings with Executive Director

· FD will arrange monthly departmental staff meeting for departmental communication, organization, team building, training, and revenue development for Fitness offerings

· FD will manage maintenance of fitness center equipment- this includes cleaning and repair work and records of.

· FD will establish community and regional ties via contact, speaking engagements, board memberships, and seminars

· FD will create and maintain an internship program with local colleges and provide interns with a meaningful productive learning experience orient and train each intern, review each intern in accordance with college procedures

· Scheduling

o FD will develop and maintain staff schedule, ensuring adequate floor coverage at all times, oversee staff requests for paid/non-paid days off, emergency fill-ins, rescheduling based on usage and schedule changes

· FD will create and manage fitness programs, promotional material (work with Marketing Director), program outlines, program reviews, development of monthly calendar, program displays and bulletin board

· FD will select, interview, and post rotating spotlight members

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Your daily schedule will vary throughout the week depending on the needs of the club, the staff, and the members. Your hours will include prime time hours and some weekends and holidays. All members of the management team are expected to work the last two days of the month. Special events, promotions, and other demands will require some early mornings and late nights.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION

A passion for health and wellness and the ability to influence people in overcoming their obstacles to exercising, joining a fitness club, and in making lifestyle changes.
Enjoys networking and building relationships - comfortable on the phone and in doing outreach in the community
Commitment to providing top notch customer service and some experience working in a fast paced customer service role
Computer-savvy and proficient in using programs such as Word & Excel
Team player who approaches challenges in a creative and positive manner
Experience in a Fitness environment focused on attaining revenue and unit goals is a plus.
Minimum Requirements:

A degree in the field of physical education, exercise physiology athletic training, or related field
Current C.P.R, AED and First Aide certifications
3 years of management experience in a fitness, hospitality or retail environment, including direct experience in profit and loss management, revenue generation and people management
Physical demands include ability to walk through all areas of clubs, climbing stairs (where applicable), repetitive squatting, bending and lifting (e.g., 40 . 60 lbs.), restacking of weights, moving of equipment as necessary and ability to demonstrate other exercise movements as part of a personal fitness workout
BA/ BS degree (in a fitness related field preferred) and a Personal Training Certification by a TSI authorized provider
AED/CPR Certified
Competencies:

· Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field

· CSCS certification qualified

· Current CPR/First Aid Certification

· Proven knowledge, experience, and success in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming in youth level athletes

· Knowledge in the following areas: Strength training, Olympic lifts, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, flexibility, injury prevention, nutrition, and strength and conditioning equipment

· Tennis background preferred

Work Environment and Expected Hours of Work

· Typical schedule is as follows (but is subject to change based on responsibilities, events, practice times, and tournaments and as programs develop)

· Expected work week for full-time staff: 44 hours/week
