Appointment: Part-Time; Seasonal 26 hours/week (65%)

Work Schedule: 26 hours per week during the Academic Year (65% time) every year/with summers off; this position is not eligible for insurance.  

(Possible Temporary Hours in the Summer)

Hours: Monday – Thursday 2:30pm – 9:30pm

(*Summer Hours, if available, may vary)
 

Salary Range: $19.56 - $27.33/hour (DOQ – Salary Placement will be done at time of hire.)

Position Purpose

Under direction from the Health/PE department with limited supervision, this position assists in the coordination of the operations of the Fitness Center, which serves as both a classroom for PE courses and as an open facility for Century students and staff.

 

Position Responsibilities  

        Provide direct support and instruction to staff, students, and all Fitness Center users (e.g. staff the Fitness Center). Maintain discipline within the Fitness Center.

        Provide leadership, supervision, assistance, support, instructional materials, and resources for students using the Fitness Center. Create seminars on fitness, health, and wellness topics for college events as needed and new resource materials to improve the effectiveness of the Fitness Center.   

        Maintain records, class materials, resources, and equipment in the Fitness Center. Keep all equipment in operational condition. Use knowledge of physical fitness equipment to be able to suggest equipment purchases and materials to the department as needed.

        Maintain good communication with students, faculty, and staff, and serve on PE/Health and college committees when needed. This includes positive problem-solving skills as this position is responsible for solving problems involving the use facilities, equipment and resources and their security within the Fitness Center.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
• Associate's Degree or higher degree in Physical Education or related field.
• AND 1 Academic Year of teaching/tutoring experience in Physical Education at the high school left or above.
• OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
• Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or related field and work experience.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Capability to operate varied Audio-visual equipment and computers including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Turning Point, and the Internet.
• Experience supervising: The ability to supervise daily operations of the Fitness Center, as well as the ability to supervise work-study students, and exercise supervision and authority of responsibilities.
• Excellent human relations skills in associating with students, faculty, administrators, and visitors.
• Ability to command respect and exercise authority in dealing with students.
• Experience with organizing and maintaining accurate records, data, and inventory.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple competing demands, prioritizing, and maintaining accuracy.
