POSITION OVERVIEW for Buti Yoga Instructor 


Group Exercise Instructors play a key role in the overall success of the center by:

  • Generating excitement, energy, and participation in class offerings
  • Creating “moments of magic” for participants
  • Consistently displaying positive energy thru enthusiasm while accommodating the needs of others
  • Providing members and guests with legendary service and enhancing their sense of belonging and community

Essential Function:

A Group Exercise Instructor implements and directs comprehensive and value- added programs pertaining to Group Exercise. Members of the Group Exercise Instructor Team will provide dynamic, invigorating, and safe classes to meet the needs of our community by putting forth the most inviting environment for the Smithfield Fitness Club.

Miscellaneous Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead classes through a series of planned, safe workouts
  • Effectively communicates and demonstrates proper form and techniques
  • Holds students’ attention and interest, keeps classes active and motivating
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance. Starts and ends classes on time
  • Returns all equipment used in class to its proper location
  • Attends training seminars and workshops to maintain teaching certifications as needed
  • Submits accurate attendance and time sheets
  • Provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Solicits feedback and actively listens to others
  • Follows the Smithfield Fitness Club Fitness Team protocol:
  • Walk facility 10 minutes prior to class to encourage participation
  • Ensure class temperature and equipment regarding upcoming class is safe prior to starting class
  • Greet participants before class to answer questions and maintain a positive exercise experience
  • Provide legally purchased music appropriate for the class. Music must fall within the guidelines of the Smithfield Fitness Club and cannot be overly suggestive, contain foul language, and must not discriminate against any group based on ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, and other parameters set by the Smithfield Fitness Club of Law standards of acceptance.
  • Make key announcements regarding upcoming facility events to class prior to beginning (as created by Director)
  • Ensure room is in “ready to go” mode after class is completed

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of one-year group exercise teaching experience desired
  • Certifications/Memberships: Must hold current national group fitness or personal training certification, in addition to specialty licenses for formats taught. Other professional certifications and/or active membership in a professional association desirable.
  • He/she must possess excellent interpersonal, creative, leadership, organizational, programmatic, and practical fitness skills
  • He/she must be capable of professional and personal interaction with a variety of Health Professionals and community members
  • He/she must be actively involved in new industry trends, programs, and research to keep Smithfield Fitness Club programming on the cutting edge.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Individuals must be physically capable, sufficiently strong enough, and mobile to lead classes and demonstrate activities
  • Must be effective communicator with participants and community
  • Must demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance
  • Possess knowledge and skills with computers and software (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Possess the ability to learn additional software and systems required for business transactions
  • Possess knowledge of and ability to apply Americans with Disabilities Act to business situations.
  • Possess reading, writing, speaking and understanding English language.
  • Be able and willing to work a varied schedule including some nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.


Job Requirements
